Hence the formal qualities of style--the central issue in painting--are, at most, of secondary importance in photography,
while what a photograph is of is always of primary importance.
Good composition is only the strongest way of seeing the subject. It cannot be taught because, like all creative effort, it is a matter of personal growth.
